American Hotel

The long-awaited reopening of the venerable American Hotel on was greeted with excitement and accolades. Visitors admired the exquisite décor and praised the cuisine at the Market Place Grille, the hotel's elegant, wood-paneled restaurant. The rebuilt hotel also boasts 20 hotel rooms, three beautiful banquet halls, two bars and a day spa.

The historic building began as a stagecoach stop in 1824 and saw many owners and transitions until it was closed for fire code violations in 2004, when it was functioning only as banquet facility. A fire in the vacant building in 2005 caused a great deal of damage to the structure.

Inspired by stories of family celebrations and milestone moments at the hotel in years gone by, Manalapan businessman Steve Goldberg purchased the property and liquor license at a bankruptcy auction in 2006.

Knowing how strongly memories of the American Hotel live in the hearts of the current and former Freehold area residents, he began the monumental task of restoring the building to it's former glory. Staying true to the charm and character of the original design while providing modern amenities, Steve's vision was to recreate the iconic building as a hotel, restaurant, bar and community gathering place.

Those who have seen and experienced the new American Hotel heartily agree that it had exceeded all expectations and will quickly resume it's place as the hallmark of Downtown Freehold. Not only has a multitude of job opportunities been produced by the venture, the community will once again be able to look to the beloved landmark for their traditions to be continued and memories to be made.
