Some folks see their dreams become a reality when they are still quite young; others like Philicia Blacknall have to wait a bit.

The Freehold Township resident had the chance to see her dream come to life on Main Street in Downtown Freehold Borough when she opened her beauty supply shop in the center of town. Blacknall said opening a beauty supply shop was something she always wanted to do and when a store became available on Main Street she seized the opportunity and the chance to pursue her passion.

Main Street Beauty Supply carries a myriad of beauty supplies for skin, hair, nails and body. In addition, a lovely glass case displays sparkly, eye-catching baubles at equally attractive prices. From the shiny bangle bracelets to the latest fashion statement—the bib rosette necklace crafted from fabric and topped with glitter--this shop offers upscale-looking accessories at downscale prices.

The shop serves consumers and salons with its collection of top brands in hair care, including Redken, Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Nexus, Clairol, L’Oreal, Dr. Miracle, B&B, Roots Organics and more.

In addition, the shop also has a wide selection of hair products for women of color, including hair styling gels, hair grease, relaxers and sprays from manufacturers such as Olive Oil, Africa’s Best, Motions and Mizani.

Looking for a new hairstyle but afraid to take the leap with your own locks? Try one of Blacknall’s large collection of lovely wigs and transform your look with a new style. Long and curly, sleek and straight, short and bouncy in many hues are all beautifully displayed.

The bonus here is that you have the opportunity to not only try on the wigs in the shop, you can also have the wig cut and styled to your desire by hairstylist Adrienne Nesby, who has her own little beauty parlor set up in the back of the shop with a salon chair and all the tools to do the job.

Previously, Nesby owned Anointed Hands Salon in Freehold, but has brought her talents and creativity to Main Street Beauty Supply to custom cut and style wigs. She also performs her magic on real hair as well. Just call ahead and set up an appointment.

The shop in the borough is a family affair for Blacknall. Her three daughters, Marquita, 24, Jacqueline, 21, and Tremese, 17, all take turns working at the shop with their mom.

Blacknall loves having her business in Downtown Freehold and says she enjoys interacting with so many “wonderful and exciting” customers. “There are other beauty supply shops in the area,” Blacknall said. “I consider it a blessing that people choose to walk into mine. I also consider it as privilege to serve them as customers.”
